riGEEKulous

ridiculously, awesomely geeky.

About this Amplog

"Rigeekulous - Ridiculously, awesomely geeky" is a Clog of everything we read that fits that description. Example:
"Check it out, I just completed a lifesize model of megaman out of legos."

"Wow. That's rigeekulous."

Beautiful steampunk-esque raygun from old camera parts

I love anachronisms, and this raygun from a fictional future past is really a thing of beauty. The radiation logo and vacuum tubes are vaguely terrifying, and the case is beautiful as well. The only piece I really recognize in this context is that classic super-8 handle, and somehow that roots it even more firmly as a possible item that never came to be.

While this is not 100% Steampunk in style, this is still quite a nice bit of re-purposing of old bits and gubbins.

For the handle of the gun, the creator used an old super-8 movie camera
Vacuum tubes from a vintage radio go into the other parts of the gun.

More photos of the construction process maye be found here:

Beautiful hardwood cutware for geeks with a nesting instinct

Sure, it’s all well and good to bring some of your college furniture and posters with you to your first apartment, but at some point you need to get rid of the futon and upgrade a bit. So, how do you show your geek colors while ditching the dorm look? 1337motif on Etsy has some beautiful geeky cutting boards, coasters, and necklaces fit the bill nicely.

Unbelivable Super Mario music sequence

How is this even possible? The levels would have to be set up with near-perfect timing, and then it looks like there’s some interaction with the game as it runs. Just… wow.

Amazing 8-bit inspired lego stopmotion vid

I can’t even fathom the work and patience that must have gone into this. They say it took 1500 hours!!

Does Conan’s new set like Super Mario?

Well, I guess that answers that! I didn’t really see it until they added the backdrop in, and then I was amazed that I had missed it. Too funny!

If you’re going to go, go out with style!

If you’re going to leave your job at a gaming company, this is just about the best way I can imagine to do it. Absolutely classic!

70’s Themed Retro Arcade Museum

While many of these machines predate me by a bit, most of them are familiar from bowling alleys and arcades of my childhood. Awesome that someone has put the work in to collect all of these and create a museum and event space around them.  It reminds me a lot of Barcade in Brooklyn!

Welcome to the 70’s!

Remember playing your favorite games at the local arcade, bowling alley, summer camp, or bungalow colony as a kid or teenager?  They seemed larger than life and still do!  Remember hearing your favorite tunes on the jukebox when songs were songs and you had to change sides in the middle of the record?

Megaman 2 in 3D!!!

This is astounding. You’ve really got to watch the video believe it - the 3d treatment retains the classic feel of the 8bit sprites while looking gorgeous in it’s own right.

Beyond that, this isn’t just 3D for the sake of looking pretty, the 3rd dimension is used in clever ways much as in Super Paper Mario for the wii. If this is a real, playable demo, it will be one highly coveted piece of art!

The “Mega Man 2.5D Single Player Demo” depicts a recreation of Mega Man 2, only while it retains the 8-bit aesthetic of the NES classic, the environment around our hero has real depth.

Sadly, thanks to licensing issues this video is probably the only fruits of Mr. Sjöstrand’s labor we’ll ever see.

This great stitch art by Cross-Stich Ninja presents a game map that we are so familiar with from Super Mario Brothers 3.

This is really amazingly detailed and well done! I’m surprised there’s not a lot more cross-stitch pixel art!

Megaman As Stop Motion

Yup. This is awesome. I checked.
