ridiculously, awesomely geeky.

About this Amplog

"Rigeekulous - Ridiculously, awesomely geeky" is a Clog of everything we read that fits that description. Example:
"Check it out, I just completed a lifesize model of megaman out of legos."

"Wow. That's rigeekulous."

8-bit remix of Thriller with video

This is a great chiptune cover of thriller, and I love seeing chiptunes paired with 8-bit inspired art. Anamanaguchi’s http://dawnmetropolis.com is my favorite example, but this is pretty neat as well!

Tetris cake with actual blocks!

This is great! I would buy a cupcake mold that made blocks in these shapes pretty much on the spot :)

new tetris game cake

I am sure people who come up with Tetris goodies are the ones who have obsessively made love to that game and feel a tribute to it is long overdue. While some did their deed in the form of wacky designs and concepts, but foodies nailed it with a Cake. The big Tetris Cake here has neat blocks from the game iced with lively colors and perfection.

Bad day? Curl up in the pajamas from “Where the Wild Things Are”

Most people I’ve talked to really can’t explain it, but there’s something about the trailers for “Where the Wild Things Are” that instantly takes you back to being a kid. You wake up in your comfy pajamas being carried somewhere, and someone says “I didn’t want to wake you up, but I really wanna show you something”… It’s just… Ahem.. excuse me, there’s something in my eye…

::walks away:: honk! sniffle… ::walks back::

Okay, sure, you can’t ever really go back to being a kid, but maybe you can capture a little of that memory of comfort, imagination, and wonder that was childhood by curling up in Max’s monster pajamas from Where The Wild Things Are.

I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of these this Halloween…

Skateboards + neon + a big hill = giant street Tetris!

This looks like way too much fun! Kudos to the group that put it together - that’s a whole lot of EL wire!

Own a wii? This will be on your wishlist this year!

Nintendo has finally returned Mario to it’s glorious side-scroller roots with “New” Super Mario Bros! I’ve been hoping for a new Mario title like this for a long time, and it looks amazing. Favoring gameplay over graphics, the combination of classic style with 4 player craziness just looks like too much fun.

Combined with a nice price cut on the Wii, Nintendo is gearing up for some serious competition with Microsoft and Sony this holiday season.

There is a new trailer available for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, showing off some of the new suits and multiplayer action from the game. This is pure Nintendo: you may not be initially amazed at the graphics, but the play looks incredibly solid and fun. Take a look at what’s likely to be Nintendo’s next big thing.

Tetris tattoo too much for you? Try this bracelet.

If the Tetris Tattoos we featured a few days ago went a little bit beyond your commitment to the classic block stacker but you’re still a fan, you might be interested in this piece that’s making it’s way around the geek blogs today. Done in lucite, this bracelet takes the “retro” in “retro-fashion” to mean “8-bit”, and I wholeheartedly approve.

The Tetris bracelet isn’t vintage in theory since it’s a new production, but it does have a retro style that geeky gamers might just fall for. Read more at inventorspot.com

Super Mario Bros. Villain Auditions

Mario, Luigi, and the Princess audition some familiar cast members for the original Super Mario Bros…

Amazing rendition of Mario-land theme on violin and guitar (via @drew)

Okay, this just makes me intensely happy, and I may have to get an MP3 of this track. I can’t tell you how many times I listened to this in it’s 4bit incarnation on the original gameboy, trying in vain to make it through Super Mario Land while at my friends house growing up.

To hear that little tune so wonderfully realized is awesome, and you can tell that these guys had a blast putting it together.

(hat-tip to @drew)

Does Conan’s new set like Super Mario?

Well, I guess that answers that! I didn’t really see it until they added the backdrop in, and then I was amazed that I had missed it. Too funny!
