The Facebook Imperative Cannot Be Stopped

Hello. We are the Robots. Happy Halloween. Bleep.

Thought a little classic German techno art music from Kraftwerk might work for you right about now…works for me. Bleep…bleep…bleep…that is all.

Lazeroids!!!

Check out this app created for the Ruby and Rails “Rumble” competition - developers were given just 48 hours to come up with an app to submit in various categories. It’s cute, clever, and sound effects are pretty darn funny.  You can check it out here: http://lazeroids.com/

enjoy.

Amplifyd from www.readwriteweb.com
This team built a neverending, massively mutliplayer, peer-to-peer version of Asteroids with sound design that had commenters raving (pew! pew!). LAZEROIDS!!! (sic) was moreover developed with complete disregard for IE support. Still, experts and commenters alike were impressed with the execution and simplicity of this app. You can check out the team’s blog for information on the architecture, or you can just go play the game.

Electromagnetism!

Electromagnetism leaking through the floor of a Kobe train causes paperclips to dance. Thanks to @haraya who retweeted the link…Cool!

Amplifyd from www.pinktentacle.com

The video — shot on the Rokko Liner in Kobe, Japan — shows how paperclips stand on end when the train accelerates and brakes. The magnetism, which is produced by the electric current that drives the motors located under the floor, apparently poses no harm to the human body, though it could damage credit cards, mobile phones, or other electronic devices if left on the floor. The Kobe New Transit Company, which operates the Rokko Liner (as well as the Port Liner, which uses similar trains), says extra shielding is being installed just in case.

The $17,500.00 Video Game

Um…gonna need a cheat to figure out why someone would pay that much $ for this. :)

Amplifyd from videogames.yahoo.com

Think $60 video games are too expensive? You won’t hear any argument from us, but you might from JJ Hendricks, a collector who just paid a clinically insane $17,500 for an obscure NES game from 1990.

The game in question is an ultra-rare, gold-colored version of Nintendo World Championships, a cartridge specially produced for use in a Nintendo-sponsored gaming contest. According to Wikipedia only 26 were created, and Hendricks calls it the “Holy Grail” of video game collectors.

And while $17,500 might seem a bit much for a collection of ones and zeroes, Hendricks actually got a bargain: the game was originally listed on eBay for a cool $25,000.

Fun w/ LASER Cutter and Old Vinyl Records

Cool idea: recycle vinyl records into wearable art cut. I am assuming these are made with a laser cutter - how else? Jewelry is pretty…ahem, groovy ;)

Amplifyd from www.etsy.com
This eco friendly piece is made from a vibrant red reclaimed vinyl record. Each piece is one of a kind due to the nature of the unique grooves present in the record prior to cutting. This edgy piece is lightweight and creates a beautiful and delicate silhouette.

The iPod of e-Readers?

Hmm. Not sure about this one. Form factor not very inventive and I’ve heard Kindle’s iPhone app is quite adequate for filling in the gaps when you have short chunks of time to read for a few minutes. I give them credit for going after a fast growing niche, but they’ve got their work cut out for them IMO.

Amplifyd from www.engadget.com
Upstart company Interead is looking to jump into the ever-expanding library of e-book readers with its debut, the COOL-ER. Company founder Neil Jones describes it as the “iPod moment that e-readers have been waiting for,” calling the device the first of its kind to be designed specifically for the non-technologically inclined reader in mind. Indeed, the aesthetics seems to borrow liberally from the iPod nano, and features eight different color options.
The feature set is pretty barebones, with no keyboard, text-to-speech, WiFi, or Whispernet equivalent — all files have to be loaded via USB or SD card — but in its place is a more attractive $250 MSRP
It’ll go on sale May 29th for US and Europe via its website
