One step closer to regrowing a heart!

Eric Skiff says:

The pace of stem cell based regenerative medicine is really amazing. Scientists seem to be building on top of each new development and accelerating their discoveries, much the way computing has evolved in the past 50 years. Imagine if regenerative medicine followed that same trend!

Scientists grow mice heart muscle strip that beats
(PhysOrg.com) — Scientists have grown a piece of heart muscle - and then watched it beat - by using stem cells from a mouse embryo
“The beauty of the system our team has developed relates to the almost pure population of the exact cells, ventricular heart cells, which we’re trying to replace in a damaged heart, and then expanding and assembling them into a functioning strip of pure ventricular muscle. That has not been done to my knowledge.”
“In essence, I think we’re moving quite quickly now from stem cell biology all the way through towards regenerative medicine.”Read more at www.physorg.com

The benefits of such research are beyond measure…But, there is a dark side, as scientists ‘play’ with nature. The ethics of this new science will be just as important as the discoveries.
